Does it matter to you how popular a band is? Do you follow the fads or do you think for yourself and search out real music, not just stuff that is top 40.

IN my opinion - what does it matter how many hits a band has had of what they look like. What does that have to do with what is coming out of your speakers? If you enjoy it that's all that matters. Music should not be an accessory to making you more popular or in with the right crowd. There are too many "fad" bands at the moment who can't play and who sound like crap but people love them because they are "popular"...that to me is no reason to like something, just besause it's "in". Being popular does not equate to being any good you know...

i don`t pay any attention to what the current hits are or what they show on mtv`s "trl" show...i`ve never been the type of person to look at the top 40 charts & say "oh such-and-such has a #1 song, so i`m gonna run out & buy that `cuz if every one else thinks it`s good, then it must be"...i think this has become more true for me especially in the last 10 years or so, what with the charts being flooded with the likes of nsync, backstreet boys, britney spears & a host of other artists who have little or no talent (this is just my opinion, i know it`s not everyone`s!)...plus, i hate rap/hip-hop, & it just seems to have taken over everything in this country, so i even shy away from turning on the radio any more...i don`t think i`ve switched it on in the past 6 months!!! i usually discover new music from the internet or through my friends that live outside the u.s., or through traveling abroad...since traveling/living abroad, i actually prefer music from foreign artists over that of the stuff being released here in america...

I have each radiohead LP and EP and 20 or so songs that havent been published. I shouldn't have any in their dvds and I dont wish them. For many years I simplest had impartial milk resort's 2 albums however now I even have their 2 unreleased demos(hype town soundtrack, invent your self a shortcake), and nonetheless no 'jittery joes'. There are a number of reside songs on youtube i might get. a few enthusiasts declare the ones are the pleasant simply to be unique, they arent. hype town soundtrack has 'engine' that is an fundamental tune to have if youre a fan, it is plenty just like the songs on 'aeroplane'. the option variation of 'gardenhead' is well too, and more often than not, the demos are amusing to hear however have been obviously no longer severe efforts and there is a motive they have been in no way published. ive noticeable each bands reside. impartial milk resort was once very fundamental to me in top tuition and so i will have been loopy approximately them.

I'm definately not one to go with fads, never have been. I was 12 and listening to AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Hank Jr. Now I'm 24 and I'm still listening to classic rock, a little bit of alternative stuff, country and Irish Punk (Flogging Molly, Seven Nations type stuff, not DKM). Irish Punk is starting to become fairly popular to the "I'm to cool to be mainstream" folks, so I'm sure it'll be labeled a fad soon enough.

I see your point and I agree. However, unless a band is producing itself, record companies need "hits" to at least cover costs and hopefully make a profit otherwise you might not hear them in the first place.(Yes, I understand the impact the Internet has on the music industry)

You answered yourself there, bud. If you like it, listen to it. I'm 44 and I like Linkin Park and System of a Down. Popularity has nothing to do with my choices. I was listening to Metallica long before they were played on any radio stations. Now they suck.

nope, i don't care. i will admit to being turned off by what a band looks like or what the video for the song looks like. i try not to be that way and listen just for the music but we're a looks-obsessed society, i guess.

Hits mean nothing.

One of my favourite bands has never had a hit, will probably never even release a single, and only releases independantly produced albums.

Doesn't stop them being a damned good band though

I'm with you !....I enjoy...music...full stop !!...(as long as it really is music and not that head banging stuff)....Melody grips me first then I really listen...to the lyrics, then play it again and try and fill in the gaps instruments have left out....I don't care who sings it, if it is quality music that I like, then that is the song for me..........keep the music coming I say !!

i don't really think it matters how many hits they have had if i like them and i think that they are good then it doesn't matter about what others think as long as you enjoy hearing them then it doesn't really matter then

no my favorite band is him, i started listening to them in 1997 when no one knew who they were , it was hard for me to find albums of them and until two years ago when they exploded with wings of a butterfly i was following them faithfully, so to me it doesnt matter
