My boyfriend bought the patches and successfully stopped smoking after 3 days on the patch (he had previously smoked for 20 years) He has been quit now for 2 months with no cheating. Promblem is he stays sick all the time. Has this happened to anyone else? He keeps getting colds and coughs more now than he did when he smoked. Any idea what is going on with him? He won't go see a doctor, I have tried that. Thanks.

My wife used the patch after having smoked for many years, and it was the ONLY thing that worked. After, she coughed up junk from her lungs for several months, but finally it all stopped. If he has real concerns, however, he should (MUST) see his doctor. The doctor will welcome him with open arms just because he has quit smoking. AND the doctor will also be able to give him proper advice. People on this site are not qualified to do so. Good. Good luck.

He stopped smoking after 3 days on the patch? That's rare and a bit odd, you're supposed to wean yourself off with the different patches (milligrams) and it usually takes more than 3 days on the nicotine patch.

I used it and I never had any of those problems he's experiencing. If it keeps up maybe try visiting the doctor or make sure he's not sneaking and smoking still, it's been known to happen.

First of all...CONGRATULATIONS!!! I quit about 7 motnhs ago...also used the patch, worked pretty good...although i had a dependency on the patch for 2 months...but i'm all clear now ;)

But to answer your question; yes its normal, the thing is...your body spends a couple of months literaly cleaning itself out, pushing all the toxins that have been building up all these years...and your metabolism is all confused, re-adjusting itself...your lungs will cough out all the mucus that has been held in there since he started smocking....he needs to eat as much greens as possible (lettuce,cucumber,spinach,Okra..etc) and excercise is actually the best and only way to boost your immune system up....its the only way for him to stop getting sick all the time.

long story short, he's fine...keep encouraging him and giving him compliments....he needs them and never think that its safe to look away...the addiction stops but the urge continues forever. Good luck :)

Yes; I can tell you exactly what's going on. His body is going through detoxification. His immune system is going through an adjustment as his body & lungs clear out & go through withdrawal. This is normal.
If he drinks distilled water & takes chlorophyll, it will speed up the detoxification process while boosting his immunity.
This is actually a good thing. He's done well, so far.
