I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Some people call us Mormons. And NO South park doesn't have a clue what we really believe. They perpetuate rumor and propaganda just like the Christians who created and distributed an Anti-Mormon DVD and mailed it to everyone in Utah. It was full of outright lies and misinformation. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died to atone for our sins.

Actually, yes.

Trey Parker was a Mormon missionary before he "apostasized" and left the Church.

The thing about Joseph Smith reading the golden plates through a hat; well, most mormons think he read them like he would any other book, but two witnesses confirm that he placed his "seer stones" (the same ones he used to use for treasure hunting) into a hat in the same room as the plates, and the characters would "appear" in front of his eyes for him to translate. So in other words, no, mormons don't "believe" that that's what happened, but it is the truth.

Most everything on the South Park episode is true, but it's simply made light of and taken in a different context from how it actually happened. Otherwise, it wouldn't be humorous.

South Park satirizes/makes fun of many facets of society. You cannot rely on the show for credible information.

does a cartoon seem like a good source of information for you? Next thing we know, people are going to be asking if they should be wary of Wile E Coyote off of bugs bunny while in the desert. if you want to learn something, go to a reliable source, like www.lds.org, or www.mormon.org

My sources say yes. These sources are Mormon and/or know a lot about Mormonism, so they're pretty credible.
