What a delemma! I don't want to endanger her in any way and I am not getting any rest. During the day I let her sleep on her stomach when I can watch her and she will go for a good 4 hours at a time. At night she is miserable on her back or side and dosn't sleep much at all (nor do I). She is 2 and 1/2 months old. What do people do when they start rolling over on their own? Is this very common. Are there a ton of babies and parents dealing with this?

One idea assuming there are no medical problem causing her to cry, is to get a bouncy chair and bounce her until she falls asleep and just let her sleep in that. That is how we were able to our daughter to go to sleep for months when she was an infant.

My baby is the same - we could not get her to sleep more than an hour or two. One day my friend, who is a baby nurse, put her on her tummy...we watched her...and she slept FOUR hours! That was it for me. I bought the Angelcare monitor (alarm if breathing stops) and we both sleep like a dream now. In fact, I am awake before my baby this morning - she has slept 10 hours! She is 4 months old, and I am so glad I did what was right for her - every baby is different!

I would talk to your health care provider. Your daughter may have gas or some other digestive issue. Often times when infants have gas they feel better with pressure on their tummies, that's why they like to sleep on their stomachs. You may also want to try one of those baby bolsters. It allows them to sleep on their sides with support on their stomachs and back.

As for when they start rolling over on their own, my kids started rolling over around 6 months. I think the "normal" range is between 4 and 8 months.

Good luck. I hope the both of you sleep better soon.

your babay is 2months plus so i am sure he probably having colic and his intestines trying to settle.
if he has 4hours sleep during the day , then you should be sleping when the baby is so you dont get exhausted.
at nites if you are terribly tired and you need to sleep put the baby tummy down on your tummy, then he can sllep while you catch a bit of sleep as well and then you can also feel everything going on in the babys little tummy all the rumblings etc.dont worry this phase would come to pass. Also after giving him a bath when the baby is so tired and relaxed you can put him down sideways, with time the baby will get to learn other sleeping styles as long as you take the lead. good luck

My son was the same way as you daughter. He is 5 mnths old. I just let him sleep on his tummy all the time. he sleeps much better so do I. I started letting him sleep on hus tummy as soon as he had good head control. My therory is once the have head control they can turn their head, also I know I slept on my tummy as a baby.
They start rollong over around 5 mnth generally.

My boys both were and are tummy sleepers. I fought it until they were about 2 months old. Then I told the pediatrician and just did it. They are both fine.

Really, we all survived it. I think as long as you have a baby monitor you will both be okay.

Do talk with your child's doctor before putting her on her tummy to sleep.

she may have gas/tummy aches. laying on her on her stomach will ease any stomach problems. plus, its more comfortable. i would much rather sleep on my stomach!both of my girls could roll over by 3 months, and if your daughter rolls early, it wont matter which position you want her to sleep in! talk to your pediatrician, but remember that as her mommy, you know her better than anyone!

you have let her get used to basically spoiled by laying sleeping on your stomach babys every quickly get used to it and get spoiled you have to get her out of the habbit of sleeping on your stomach at all because she wont want to sleep in her own bed ever that way ... best thing you can do is get her in her own bed and if she has to let her cry it out she will be ok its not going to hurt her .. she will be fine she just has to learn that she cant sleep on MOM anymore its hard to do specially if its your first born you wantto hold them all the time but you have to be strong and set boundrys from the start or children will walk all over you

She could have some type of reflux, Maybe try slanting whatever she is sleeping on. My daughter would only sleep sitting up, she had reflux so bad. Ask your Dr. THey always know.
