If the team can't withstand the pressure from public, from whom they are getting paid (thru taxes), then how they are going to get the work done against the external pressure. They piled up their pressure. Ask Mr. Sharad powar to show the recent achievement in last 2 years. Even there is no personal records that of Kumble's 500 + and Mr. sachins record of century per year.

There is every possibility of something "fishy" going on in the BCCI. A man who finds difficult to become CM in Maharashtra tries to find "other" ways of earning money....
What good has he done for Maharashtra and what good can he do for cricket???
If India is to win in real serious sense than India really needs to take very harsh decisions, right from players to BCCI chiefs.
Maybe each and everybody is involved.....
Autonomy of BCCI should be prevented and cricket should be brought under national sporting banners (govt).
The players should be accountable and payments to them should only be made if they win matches or else...not a single rupee should be given to them if they loose.
The sponsorers should also sign them on conditional basis...ie if the players reach Super 8 in next world cup then only 1 % money will be given, If they reach quarter finals 25 %. If Semi-finals then 50 %...if they reach finals 75% and if they win world cup then 100 %.....of contract money agreed should be given.
Such conditions will drive the players to play properly....or else another suggestion is that the player should return some amount of the sponsor money if they do not make to finals and compensate for the loss to sponsors....this is business after all....Nothing should be free.....
Also a player should be banned from doing more than 3 ads per year....

Well! He didn't want to expose his true feelings! All he wanted to say is "Indian public had put on high hopes on a team that is fit for nothing except for showing their faces on the idiot box in the name of endorsements and not on the field in the name of the game." So, I don't think it is a U turn but is an indirect form of expressing his true opinion on the teams performance. He is a politician and not a sportsman, currently. So, he has to take into consideration of his posts with delicate touch so that he should not lose any. So he used the indirect accent.

It is totally a lame excuse given by Sharad Pawar. If the players are not able to perform under pressure, they do not deserve a place in International team. In fact the players should use all their abilities to excell when put under pressure, whichn should be the hallmark of a good player

If the team is called "India" then they will have pressure from the people of india. Because we so waste our precious time watching them play and supprting them. Indirectly we pay them. Because the advertisements they take are watched by us. So wht Mr. SP is doing is just beating around the bush. Who wants toi listen to his crap. Team India has the capability . They will come back. Not the team but the management and the selection committee should be blamed.

Well he can fool the public easily. He is a politician. We all know that the players, politicians, bookies are hand in glove with each other. Otherwise who can explain Azhrudding's nearness to Kiran More et al.!

For once, he is correct. The public, in India (me including) is too emotional. Adding to it the media too is fanning-up emotions & hype for their benefit. This type of behavior, puts too much, unrealistic pressure.
To compare, the Australians were thrashed by lowly New Zealand & England, just before World Cup, but, their public & media, did not behave like this. They only ebbed them for better performance.
Similarly, England were thrashed 5-0 in ashes. Didn't they bounce back! Did their public and media behave like this?
