He wasn't responsible for the actual Teletubbies. He was, however, responsible for the teletubbies theme tune making it onto the UK charts. He was the record company's man on the job.

To add something to Tish's answer: Hence the joke behind Chris Sligh's Teletubbies reference the first week of the finals. By the way, did you get the impression Chris Sligh was getting tired of American Idol and WANTED to leave?

No there is no rumour in that he created them, think he was something to do with the theme tune.

He didn't invent them. It was his first gig I think he was the tubby with the purse.
