It really gets on my nerves so what would you suggest we nickname men? Apes? (not all men, just the ignorant bird watchers)

Paul McCartney said he's dating a new bird. It did sound condesending. Considering he hasn't gotten rid of the vulture he's still married to, he ought to avoid birds altogether.

It amuses me, actually. There was one man I knew years ago who referred to me as "skirt." I was about 21. It did not offend me. I'm the first person to call myself "broad" or "chick." I don't think I can say what I refer to men as...I'm just very relaxed about that. There are a lot of other things that are more important to me but if that's your pet-peeve, do ahead and come up with something and use it.

Calling women 'birds' is a British thing right?

How about calling men armadillos? Yes I think that will work.

No need to be so sensitive about it.

Not in the slightest. I guess it depends on the sentiment behind it, but I have never minded as long as it isn't intended derogatorily.

It doesn't bother me, this guy used to call me princess, I thought it was really sweet. But I call men blokes, geezers etc.

No, not at all. I think in recent years it has taken on the equivalent meaning of "bloke" which isn't derogatory.
