Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

You start by advertising. Put out flyers to local small businesses and homes, depending on what sort of cleaning you are going into. Building sites for builders cleans is another great one, tout for business. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment of funding for it and remember you will need funding in order for liability insurance, wages etc. I have done it and still do, it aint easy but well worth it in the end. Check your market for potential customers.
Fix a price: an hourly rate etc.
Advertise. Blitz your area with flyer's: local paper etc.
Sit back and wait for the response.
Have plenty of materials so you don't become stuck in the middle of a job.
Don't take to much on to start with.
And NEVER employ best friends-its very costly!.

Start a website and optimize it to show up on Google when anyone does a search for cleaning services in [your town].
If you are going to build a site for business purposes, make sure to get your own domain name. Its cheaper than you think.
