its set to 9600bps 8 data bits parity - none stop bits - 1 and flow control - none

the rollover cable is connected into my serial adapter that has no bent pins, the cable has no bent pins either

am i doing anything wrong?
the router is on and its not making the psu faulty noise

1. Reboot my computer with the Cisco console cable plugged into the serial port.
2. Make sure that the console settings are set to 9600 on the console configuration. You will notice this by a bunch of strange characters appearing in the HyperTerminal screen.
3. Make sure that you are using the console cable into the console port of the router.
4. Hit enter a couple of times.

I am sure you checked but are you sure HyperTerm is connecting to the correct serial port?
I did that once -- took me forever to figure it out.
Other than that are you sure that is a crossover serial cable?
