Yes and no... it's safe for a one time use, or if it's non iodinized it's safe for general use, but I would use it only in a pinch. Iodine won't kill the fish on contact, but does accumulate in the fish to unhealthy levels if they get too much. Given that most prepared fish foods give them all they need, it's not good to add more with your salt. A purer salt such a kosher salt is a better over all choice.

Table salt will not kill fish. In fact, Iodine, the ingredient in table salt preventing its use in aquariums, is actually beneficial to fish in small quantities. The problem with it is that is has too much iodine, which could have long term adverse affects on the fish. It is safer to go with an uniodized salt, but it won't simply kill fish like the pet store must have told all these people.

Yes. The amount of trace iodine will not hurt your fish. However there is no good reason to put salt in your fresh water aquarium anyway.

The pH of water affects weather or not your fish can absorb or has a weak ability to absorbe electrolytes by fish
electrolytes aer lost by fish in times of stress, including potassium, chloride, calcium, & magnesium all of which can be replaced by simple water changes..

Yes and no. Check the label on the salt Iodine is fine and will not hurt your fish, since all living animals need iodine anyway, however if the salt contains tobermorite ( a fiber like asbestos) which is used for binding calcium silicate, don't use it.

Mortonsalt.com has one of their uses is fish and aquarium safe. (even though it contains calcium silicate)

Most aquarium salts are evaporated sea salt. since it contains minerals.

However there are many that are rock salts containing calcium silicate!

Table salt has additives in it that could be harmful to your fish.
I wouldn't risk it.
