I have taken it to the Garage and they can't seem to find a problem or even notice it. But there is definitely a strong smell of petrol always coming from car so bad you cannot always have the windows open - does anyone else have the same car and has noticed the same thing. Or is there something wrong with mine?

We have just bought a second hand Xsara LX and filled the tank and within the day inside the car stank of petrol. I thought it would be a fire hazard but have checked all connections except the fuel tank as i cant get underneath yet. Will try a new cap or the the old trick of soap around the seal. Use a white soap - Lifebouy don't work.

Had this on my car (different model) and it turned out to be a very slight leak on the petrol tank, we tried to get it repaired but it just got worse so we put a new one in.
Good luck

it depends on the engine
but the 1800 and 2000 were very common for the fuel pipes that run over the timing cover
get some one to check it for you .
hope this helps
