And what possible evolutionary function could it have?

I ask as these attributes seem to be counter-productive to finding a mate and indeed hazardous to the mating act.

Speaking purely with my scientific hat on - genetics, is certainly a factor in the development of basic body shape, but diet is without doubt the determining factor in the physical attributes to which you refer. Ethnicity has very little to do with it. As long as a person eats healthily, physical shape can be controlled, at least as far as excess fat is concerned.

It is genetics that accounts for body type.What is desirable in one ethnic group is not attractive to another. This tends to keep similar clans to mate. It's the hips in particular that broad cast easy childbearing. Storage of fat indicates a good provider for and infant when food is scarce.
Currently the availability of global travel erases some of the signals nature has given us to find a mate.

sir .. in response to you and your intriguing question I must say that I have drawn a blank.... all i do know is that I have asked my significant other to wipe a wad of toilet tissue between her breasts at least twice a day. I can only hope that it has the same effect on her mammary glands as it has had on her glutinous maxi-mus.

i think its in the genes next door to me theres a large dad,and all his 4 daughters now in 20s are all large,and now there kids u see them putting on the weight.so i think its genes
