Loosen the lower cable adjuster, set the handlbar cable adjuster at it's mid-point. Don't worry about free play at this point, it's the last step.

On the right side cover you will see a small cover with a arge slot. Using the shock spanner from your toolkit (or a half dollar), remove the cover.
You will see a small nut and screw arrangement in the center of the hole. While holding the screw from turning, loosen the nut 2 turns. Now, while holding the nut, turn the screw in until it stops. Back out one full turn. While holding the screw, tighten the nut. Make sure the o-ring on the cover is clean, and put it on. Take the slack out of the clutch cable at the lower adjuster. Adjust free play at the handlebar.

The way it works: The screw adjusts the clutch spring pressure, in is more, out is less. The nut is a locking device.

If you cannot get your clutch to work properly with this method, you need mechanical repair.

As long as there's a little freeplay in the lever, it's probably not the adjustment. More likely the clutch plates are polished to a nice mirror finish. You can rough them up if they're still thick enough, but chances are you need new plates and/or new springs.
Also, make sure you never add any oil treatment on anything with a wet clutch.

You can try loosening the clutch cable at the hand-grip. That will allow more purchase at the start.
But if your clutch is slipping at all, it may already have suffered damage. A clutch failure is not a huge deal, anyway. In the CB series, clutch replacement can be done on the roadside in a pinch.
Cool bike and congrats. But plan on replacing that clutch in the not too distant future.

There is no external adjustment except for the clutch cable. If you can pull in the clutch lever without the cable getting pulled, then the clutch lever "free play" is OK. Free play should
be about 5mm (no greater than 1/4") between the lever and pearch.
Most likely the clutch will have to be replaced.

If its like a 900, you have to start at the clutch. the handlebar adjustments are pretty much just for freeplay. If it is, its all pretty easy, self-adjusting, takes about 10 minutes...
Check the manuel......
