God really messed up by creating a devil & hence all the confusion in the world. He also has a simple solution to solve all the problems of the world but just wont do it ......... he can appear before us ......... will he do it ... nah ! All it takes is one appearance - unmistaken , impossible to debate ........ one appearance .......... and then all the evil will vanish from the world.
The problem is that he will never do it & his followers will keep saying Jesus appears in mysterious ways , the muslims will talk about allah, the hindus will have their own gods & each religon will weave a fairy tale that only talks about their own gods and will debunk others gods .... a bit like 2 kids fighting "my daddy is stronger than your daddy"

Will Good Triumph Over Evil? :
- Good Surrounded by Evil

You can choose to believe whatever you will. However, there is no religion that is not in some way associated with Satan / the Devil.
"satan" means "resistor"
"devil" means "slanderer"
Satan is the chief and foremost slanderer and false accuser of Jehovah, his good word, and his holy name.
Do you believe in angels? If so, you should have no trouble believing that Satan the Devil exists, as he was originally a holy angel, assigned to watch over earth's happenings.

Angels--How They Affect Us
http://www.watchtower.org/e/20060115/article_01.htm
The world is full of human resisters & slanderers. Some claim that Satan was created by God to Be Satan, but that is Totally False! Satan made Himself what he is, by the choices he selfishly & willfully made. Free Will doesn't only apply to mankind ... The angels also have Free Will ...
The Wonderful Gift of Free Will

Either a religion is untrue, & therefore backed by Satan ...
Or, it is The one true religion of
"You alone, Jehovah, ...
the God above all other gods
in supreme charge of all the earth." (Psalms 83:18),
whose very active opposor is Satan the Devil.
Even if one makes up their own beliefs, they will still be on the side of -- & backed by-- God's most active opposition.
http://watchtower.org/e/20020422/article_01.htm
So, one really Can't get away from it ... unless via a very active imagination ... which never held any water, & never will.

Depends how you think of the force of Evil. You don't have to believe in Satan as an individual. The Bible describes Satan as an angel-being who went his own way.
Some people think that "evil" is simply the general disposition of humans, the "good" - God - has to overcome. One belief is that there are separate forces of Good and Evil - God and Satan, if you like - that are in permanant conflict (and some think that a roughly equal balance between the two is needed).
Even if you're a Christan, you don't have to follow the official doctrine of any particular denomination. Just follow what you believe.

I find it interesting that you mention religion in the Mythology and Folklore section instead of Religion and Spirituality. Was this a Freudian slip?
In Mythology even a "Good God" can have his bad days, and a chaotic (evil?) god can do good things (albeit for the wrong reasons). No one can force you into believing in a devil. They may intimidate you (as they did in the Inquisition, they used torture and death) but in your heart of hearts and in your mind, you believe in what you believe.
As others have mentioned there are religions in the world that do not believe in a devil. There is right action (that which benefits) and wrong action (that which harms). We are free to choose which action to take.
I do not believe that a Good God means there is necessarily an Evil Satan.

I think if you have a being defined as Absolute Good, it must have a counterpart of Absolute Evil, in order to maintain a balanced cosmos. However, I have never seen Absolutes in nature, so I tend to doubt the existence of Absolutes.
The idea that God is Absolute Good and the devil is his counterpart is a non-Christian idea that seems to have attached itself to the religion. Consider: God is omnipotent (all-powerful) and benevolent (we hope!), therefore the devil exists by His permission and cannot be purely evil, for a benevolent God would not permit such a thing to exist.
Hope that helps!

There is this think called Buddhism - It's not a religion and it will help you to understand this entire idea of good and bad in a different way and understand also that once we put something in "god" position our logic who is contradicting hour heart , will immediately find a bad think therefore if you wish to be free from this or this - why not just say they are the same and what is considered "evil" in your eyes might be the "god" of someone else and vice versa. The Baha'i Faith doesn't believe in a spirit called the Devil. The Devil is defined as "the insistent self"--that is, the lower nature of human beings.

I think the human mind has to catagorize everything in order to process it, so the file cabinets of the brain are in catagories, this is nice--must be good or God thing, this is awful, this must be a bad or Satan thing, etc etc. By the way , ever notice that good and God are separated by only one letter?

Dear Friend
Tell Me do u belive in GOD, if yes then u will have to belive in SATAN. Religion is a paradox, U see for every good there is an evil in every religion, it is what keeps the religion alive, the complimentary nature of good and bad.

Don't the words themselves give you a clue? GOoD and dEVIL? Both exist in the world whether or not you choose to believe in them as external spiritual forces. No religion should force you to believe. The best religion is one that answers your questions and constantly challenges you to grow spiritually. Personally, Christianity is the one that works for me.
