I understand he's manager, and whatever the reason, he's responsability for lack of results is his, and thus all this abuse against him. But he's put back 4-4-2, dropped Lamps (albeit for an injury), etc.etc., all that the fans and media have been on about. Perhaps, he's bad motivator in the dressing room, but what else do you think can he do?
My point is, what about the players, especially the forwards ??? I almost feel we could drop the current ones and put Gerrard up there...

It's 50% him because he picks the team, decides on the formation and implicates the tactics. The other 50% is down to the players, because they are just not turning up. The England team needs to have much more of a sense of urgency about it. England haven't played that way since maybe against Portugal in Euro 2004.

It is definitely time to ruffle a few feathers and drop some of the under-performing 'star' players. Jolt them back into performing properly for their country.

However, I do think some of the criticism Steve McClaren has been getting has gone too far. Yes, it's a results-orientated game, results and performances have been poor, and McClaren is damned by association with Eriksson, but come on! Listening to the abuse he was getting, you would think he was a child molester or a serial killer. He hasn't murdered or raped anyone - he's just a normal bloke trying to do a job - so let's reintroduce some perspective and some common sense.

Would you abuse a paramedic or fire fighter whilst they were doing their jobs?

Some of the criticism in the newspapers looked to me like criticism for the sake of it. One give-em'-what-they-want tabloid ran a story on McClaren's being the most boring England team in post-war memory, because they have the lowest goals per game ratio. Duh! They have only played 8 games and have missed their most important striker for all of them!

The abusive morons on the terraces, and the fickle writers in the press, would probably be the first to cheer if things were going well for England.

Macca is to blame when he allows situations to carry on that clearly do not work.Against Isreal it was clear after 10 mins that the Isrealis had no intention of attacking ,so he could have taken Hargreaves off (as there were no Irsreali attacks to break up) brought Gerrard into the middle and switched Lennon to the right and brought on Downing on the left ,but he sat there and did nothing .England are not lacking in passion etc they are as commited as anyone else ,sometimes results just don't go your way .

The players need to stand up and be counted, but I do blame the manager. He appears to be spineless (won't drop Lampard), lacks tactical nous (struggling to break down Israel and Andorra). He also appears to lack the motivational skills as the team look like they are not even trying. He has done nothing to suggest he will take the national team forward, or take us to a major semi final let alone win anything. Get him out

Not entirely, But he really f***ed me off last night in his pre- match interview when asked about his treatment by the press & public he had the nerve to respond with " As long as I have the support of my staff & the players I don't care what anyone else thinks" Does this tw*t not realise that it is us the fans that pay his salary & what the sport is all about without fans there would be no football

Yes Mclaren is at fault .......... It's the golden rule of football, if results don't go right then i'm afraid it's the manager who gets it in the neck. He picks the side, tells them how to play, makes the tactical decisions etc etc ............ The bottom line is that he's not good enough to be the England manager and the sooner the FA realise that the better!

this is englands worst start for a new manager (ever). we slated sven all the time but we did win games with him. atleast he knew what he was doing. macca should never have dropped beckham.beckham is the best right midfielder we have and he scores goals and makes them. i think it must be personal between macca and becks as anyone with any sense would have him in you team. lennon is ok but his crossing is pants.i say let terry venables take charge

A bit, although he picks the team and the formation and tells the team what he wants them do and where on the pitch to do, there are 11 men on that pitch and if they don`t play well, with passion and feeling and commitment then i think they are all to blame.

Yes. Also Terry should be removed as captain. It looked like as he was walking off the pitch at the end of the game and he removed his captains armband, I thought at last he was going to give it to someone who gives a damn and worked hard for his team....Gerrard.

He doesn't have the imspirational leadership qualities that a football team needs, he seems to be neither tough like Ferguson nor intelligent like Erikson.
He's just a plodder. Where's his vision ?
