just unmute it from sound settings.

depends on ur drivers but try the following
in the options of the program u are using the mic, example net meeting or msn, in the mic option select "mic at front panel(pink)

if u have realtek as your drivers, open realtek, (where equalizer etc is shown) click microphone and in "select an activated device" select "mic at front panel (pink)

Double-click on the sound icon on the system tray to open the sound properties, then check wether the Mic is muted or not, if mute is checked then uncheck it.

Check that it is not muted.
