I am currently unemployed and have no health insurance. I have been going on interviews and think i should land a job soon. Once i do land a job and get health insurance i want to go see a psychatrist. It is something i have been putting off for a while (mainly becaue of no insurance) but feel it is something i need to do. My question is how long should i wait after i get insurance to go see one and is this something i should tell my new employer or is it something i can keep confidential. I would prefer not to tell them but i dont know if it is something you are required to share and if they would know about it since they give me health covereage

There is no reason to tell your new employer that you would be seeing a psychiatrist. You are not required to do so.

If you obtain employment, the Human Resource dept will go over your insurance options with you. Usually they will have one ins co. Don't ask your employer when psychiatriac coverage begins. You will get a booklet & can look it up for yourself. Good luck in getting a job & one with health coverage.

That should be confidential. The fact that you're seeking help for whatever your problem is says a lot about you, but your new employer might not see it that way. Usually there is a period of 30-90 days before the employer will give you health insurance. Good luck! Are there any agencies in your area who could help you now?
