I was just a little over 4 years old when the original Star Wars came out. To me Star Wars is as much a part of American culture as apple pie, classic cars, and baseball. But at the same time, Star Wars has still been little more than a movie to me. I don't go to conventions, I don't read every thing Star Wars that exists, and I certainly can't recite every line of the movies. That being said, I was pretty psyched to hear about the Star Wars postage stamps and you can bet I'll be getting more than one sheet to hermetically seal.

I have to admit my enthusiasim for Star Wars has diminished in recent years. Probably because the prequels were not as good as the originals - although I still accept them as they are an enjoy them. And I think part is because there is nothing else to look forward to.

So I'm curious, what does Star Wars mean to you today? And did the prequels have any effect on your overall feeling about the franchise?

I was 7 years old when the first Star Wars (Episode IV: A New Hope) came out. I saw it in the movies and was a hardcore junkie all throughout childhood. I had the action figures, I collected the trading cards. I subscribed to the comics. I had the collectors movie programs for Empire and ROTJ. I dressed up as Darth Vader on Halloween 1980. And on and on and...

Of course, adulthood has a way of watering down the things we fancied as a child. But I am proud to say that my remaining enthusiasm for Star Wars has, in my opinion, kept alive the child in me. I don't do the conventions and have long since gotten rid of the old toys and collectibles. Although, I do get an occasional Star Wars "toy" for Christmas as a gag gift, which I really get a kick out of. So hardcore junkie? Not quite. Still a big fan? Huge! Over it? Not now...not ever.

I was initially disappointed with the release of The Phantom Menace. But as Attack of the Clones came out, I saw how nicely the story was tying together. I have to admit that there was some sub-standard acting in the prequels, but if you pay good attention to A New Hope, Mark Hamill was no pro, himself. The key to loving the prequels is to not take them so seriously with our now adult minds. Let them be fun and exciting on a childlike level and...lo and behold...they WILL be.

BTW...the story DOESN'T end. The Star Wars television series is already in pre-production by Rick McCallum with scripts being written. George Lucas will join the crew full time after he wraps on Indy IV and an upcoming movie project called Red Tails. Filming for the show is set to begin either this Fall or Spring 2008, with a possible late 2008 TV debut. The show is supposed to chronicle the Star Wars universe between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Still love the hype,I was 6 ,in fact I just met Dave Prowse (Darth Vader)this last summer.I was never a hard core starwars fan as much as the ones who live it that I saw in costume that make it part of there daily lives, but a big fan nontheless.I still have lots of figures from my childhood as well as some today, I like the new stuff the new movies were a bit stiffer than I would have liked but I think the video game battlefronts makes up for what I thought should have been in the movie as well as the cartoon versions of the Jedi,(I hated the fact the jedi masters were beaten so easily in the prequels).Over all star wars will always be near and dear to my heart. I reminisced the opening scene were Darth Vader walks on board Princess leia's ship with Prowse, and as a little kid my jaw was dropped in awe, he smiled and said that part was a pretty grand entrance.

Okay, I admit I have much less burnout than many of you because I'm about half your age, but I agree with the thought that the original trilogy was much better than the prequels.

Personally, I am getting more and more into the video games and books. Believe it or not, unlike Star Trek books, the Star Wars ones CAN be pretty good (of course they aren't always, but...).

Okay let's just put it this way. I've been a Star Wars fan for the past 8 years now and I am not bored with it. Anything after episode 2 is exciting to me and I do still have a medium obsession with it.

It is true that I am obsessed with all sci-fi, so I'm kinda biased...

I must say if anything, Star Wars means more to me now because as a child, even though I loved it, there were many things I didn't grasp. I've loved it since the first time I saw A New Hope when I was about 5 or 6 and I think it's something I will love for many years to come. From the first time I saw it, it blew my little mind, and I've been kinda obsessed with it ever since.... I had the curtains and bedsheets (still do ☺) and a ton of the toys, lego etc. like so many other kids. My favorite toy was my little wind up R2-D2 man he was so cute. I used to beg my Mom to put my hair up in buns like Princess Leia. I've never been to a convention but I admit if one came to my town I would probably go. I've read a lot of of the books too and they're lots of fun. Right now I'm reading Revenge of the Sith. It's cool because there are a few things that go down differently in the book and a lot of funny moments between Obi-Wan & Anakin..as well as some very sad stuff of course. I think could talk about star wars all day. I got the trivial pursuit saga edition for my birthday last year and I am still undefeated! Ok I feel like I should point out that I don't live in my parents basement, I own my own home and I can interact socially lol.

I'm one of the few people I know that LOVES all the prequels. For me it was a very unexpected surprise when George Lucas announced that he would be making them, and to me, it's all tasty gravy on my already delicious original trilogy steak. I know many people don't care for Phantom Menace, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and still do. How cool was it to see R2 & Threepio meet for the first time? Mini Darth Vader! A pod race! A double ended Lightsaber!? Whoa! Attack of the Clones ... I mean Yoda got his lightsaber out, need I say more? Revenge of the Sith blew my mind but still makes me bawl my eyes out. It's all so tragic. Stupid Anakin. Poor Obi-Wan. Poor Mace. Poor Yoda! "failed I have" o0o0o0o<--tears.

I'm quite excited about the stamps as well and will definitely get some! I've already voted for my favorite one... have YOU? hehe ☺

I remember seeing star wars on television back when I was a kid in the early 80's. We didn't have money to go to the theatre, so we always had to wait for the films to come on t.v. I was a little boy when I sneaked out of bed to watch Star Wars at 1 am.

The original films, Are the best of the six. The recent ones, would have been better, IF they chose different actor's and actresses.

Obi-wan and Qui-Qon were played well. And of course so was Palpatine.

Yet, the rest, Anakin, Padame, were played with terrrible actor's. They did not act well , in my opinion, at all.

For the Star wars, they should have been ALOT more pickier.

I am a big fan though of star wars. I enjoyed playing there Knights of the old republic game on xbox.

Course, one of my most favorite things is the Light-saber.

I like both the red colour, and the Green colour.

purple.......what was that.....?.....

The "Force" is a Very interesting topic. For it is Very close to meditation in real life. And indeed This is what draws me to Star Wars.

I find that part of the star wars universe most interesting. I meditate much. And find that we are apart of a Oneness. An energy that does exist through out all and everything. This I truely believe.

So, I suppose I find that I share somthing in common with the Star War's Jedi philosophy.

And why not eh.

I first saw Star Wars in 1977 when I was 8 I was instantly hooked and I'm still a big Star Wars nerd today and I have taken my kids with me. My daughter (15) and son (7) are huge Star Wars fans too.

we must be around the same age. i remember seeing star wars for the first time and just watching with my mouth agape. i still think it's one of the best movies made. and that's the original one, not the re-made original. i definitely think it's the best one of the series, and the prequels made me appreciate it even more because really, they were disappointing IMHO.
when i saw it when i was little i thought the special effects were so awesome, and that must have stuck in my head cuz i still think that.
can't say i will be going out to buy stamps though or go to any conventions. i wouldn't say 'no' if han solo stopped by though hehe :)

Well for me i just finish watching the complete saga for the 1st time so basicallty I've only seen it once. I think its a goog movie but like every other movie I watch I'm not going to go "coo-coo" over it. I guess today Star Wars means a movie that is good (in my point-of-view) and it means me waiting for the sequel to come out.
