I have the option of going to Vandy but I am wondering about the schools international recognition, alumni networking and prestige. Is the school on par with the ivies?

Apply to the Ivies and if you don't get in, go to Vanderbilt. School's reputation counts for something, but most of all your marks and what you do counts. Going to Harvard, getting crappy marks, and having zero extracurricular activities will get you lower points than if you're a well-rounded student @ Vanderbilt. Is economics your passion? I suggest you go on with Ph. D if you can. I think to be a true economist you need one. Take things one step at a time and if you can do a master's then take the Ph. D at an Ivy.

Vanderbilt is a well-known school and will probably do a lot for you. If you could get into Harvard or MIT or something, do that, but you'd probably well-served at Vanderbilt.
