Are they social? Will they actually come to you? Are they more like hamsters...I think hamsters are boring. What kind of toys should you give them? What are some good foods?

Sonic. There's Sonic the Hedgehog, a video game character, and there's Sonic Hedgehog, which is a hedgehog protein that's widely studied.

they can become quite friendly, but are a bit boring..but just so darn cute! They eat high quality cat kibble, and cottage cheese and fresh mealworms with small amount of boiled egg....Mine made my hand itch, when I stroked their spines, but I lerned that it didn't if I washed it a washcloth frequently. They are inquisitive and friendly mostly in the evenings, so are a good pet for those that work or go to school.
They need a small travel kennel for thier den

Well, it takes a long time for them to get used to you, we had one we got from a store and it took forever and you got poked a lot, but if it is possible try to get one that has already been tamed, I had an albino that I bought from my neighbor that was moving and it took a lot of the stress away from cleaning his cage and trying to get around him or picking him up without him getting tense and puffing out his needles.

I have never had one, but have heard they can carry illnesses. Do your research, and be prepared. I was pricked by one in a pet store once and had an allergic reaction too... Just things to consider.
