A feminist (one m) is a woman or a man who believes that a person has the right to
-- control her own body
-- control her own sexuality
-- desire whoever she wants to
-- dress how she wants to but realize that clothing does send certain signals
-- control her own money
-- be economically independent
-- be intellectually independent
-- be her own person with her own life path
-- decide for herself how her life should go
-- a basic education and higher education
-- decide if she wants children or not
-- be childfree if she wants
-- use birth control if she wants
-- decide how many children she wants, and how far apart she wants them
-- decide if an abortion is right for her or not
-- basically make all her decisions about her own life for herself because she trusts her own judgment and doesn't depend overly on her family or the church or any outside authority telling her how to live, what to think or what to be.

Your life; your body; your mind; YOUR CHOICE, for better or worse. You are ultimately responsible for yourself. Some choices are good and some are not so good, but feminists, like humanists, are willing to be responsible for their own choices and take responsibility for their own lives.

Feminists and humanists alike take a skeptical view of government and organized religion and want to forge their own paths. There is an understanding and appreciation of history, but a realization that we are also responsible for creating our own destiny and living life to our fullest human potential.

It takes a strong will, a strong mind and a strong person to be a feminist and/or a humanist, because you are essentially going against millenia of conformism. For thousands of years, governments and religions have told men and women how to live. Now that governments and religion have less power over our immediate lives and we have more individual autonomy, feminism is on the rise, as is humanism.

I hope this helped answer your question. Cheers, K

An angry woman with no sense of direction in her life and who wants to go through life with a sense of hostility for every wrong she 'percieves' that does or does not exist.

Kate's answer is very cliche'. But it really tells you nothing, except that feminists want control of themselves. Yet it does not tell you how feminists are wanting to push there agenda of 'me, me, me.' Well, actually, if you read between the lines, it does. Society evolved as it has for milleniums because people sacrificed for their families. They sacrificed their own desires and taught their children to sacrifice. Suddenly, we have had the last two generations with an attitude that says, "Uh, what is sacrifice?", and you can see this in society.

And Answer Faerie, nobody said women aren't people (OK, some redneck out in the middle of nowhere may have), but most men have no problem giving women equal rights (voting, equal wages, etc), the problem is abortion (no, it does not effect only your body), trying to tell us that boys can't be boys and play with guns, girls can't be girls and play tea party, that there is no difference, and I should be in jail because I believe there is a difference in boys and girls. Yet the most chauvenistit pigs of all...the guys who many feminists still choose to have one night stands with after proclaiming their equality, they are the ones who use women and have 0 respect for you. And you (well, maybe not you, but many feminists) let them!

A feminist is someone who believes in the natural superiority of women. Feminists tend to be bigoted and have a strong hatred or prejudice toward men.

It is a movement that promotes misogamy, abortion on demand, and discrimination against males at all age levels.
