I don't think that the Germans were on holiday. they were probably fighting the Russians on the Eastern front. The fact is that the Germans has offered to hold the Russians at their borders, what ever the cost, and allow the allies to come in behind them. However the idiot politicians were talked by Stalin into allowing the Russians in as far as Berlin and the rest is history. The rape of Eastern Europe by the Soviet Union, the Cold War etc, which was good business for the arms industry. makes you wonder who was running the show doesn't it?

Your Grandad sounds like a great guy I doubt he was totally serious.
"the SS where fanatics".

My Grandad told me he was fighting young boys and old men at the end of the war.
perhaps they where on holiday. but more likely they where wiped out by the Brits ,Pols and Ruskies. they didn't care for the SS that much after discovering there atrocities

Who would be on holiday when there is a war going on. They didn't just call the Americans and say, "Could you hold up the war, we're getting tired of fighting. We can start up again in 2 weeks. Have a nice day."
*Did you mean Paris?

I don't know, I wasn't there, but I have a feeling your Grandad is pulling your leg.
Maybe you could read some accounts of the last days of WW2 and find out what other people have to say about it.

Don't underestimate how dreadful this war was and be thank full that all those dead British and Americans kept our freedom for us. The factor your Grandad mentioned is not irrelevant to the scale of this horrific war.

Hi!

Ha, ha, ha!!

That's VERY interesting!

Well your Grandad was there, so between you, me and him - I guess that gives his theory some kind of substance!

Does your Grandad have any more interesting stories? We'd love to hear them!

(American accent) - Have a nice day!!

If the Japs didn't bomb Pearl Harbour, the americans would have stayed on their holiday too.
