Look at your ipod in the sourcelist in itunes. It should have the little ipod symbol and then the name of your ipod wirtten next to it. There is like a little arrowy type symbol next to that. This is the eject ipod button.. i'm sure you can also locate an eject button by looking at the different menus at the top of the screen ie. file, view, etc. Basically use the one I said or find another one and click it to eject the ipod. If you don't want to hit eject you can just unplug the ipod. I know some people say they have experienced damage to the files on the ipod from disconnecting before hitting eject but this is the way i've been disconecting my ipod for years and nothing bad has every happend to me.

The moment you connect your ipod to the PC, the "do not disconnect" message will start flashing. To disconnect your ipod, follow these steps.
1. close itunes.
2. if winamp or realplayer or any other software is accessing stuff on your ipod, close them too. This also includes any explorer windows having the ipod drive open. Accessing data from your ipod wont happen without your knowledge, so if you don't think this is happening, it probably isn't.
3. look at your lower right side of the screen. you will see the symbol for USB device there. Click it once.
4. A popup will appear right next to the icon which will show which USB drives are connected to your PC. Assuming your ipod is the only one connected via a USB port, there will be only 1 item.
5. Left Click the popup once.
6. Ipod should be safe to disconnect from your computer now.
7. if nothing works, shut down your pc, and remove your ipod. :)

When it says "Do Not Disconnect" it doesn't mean you can't disconnect it from the computer. It means that it's doing something with the info in your Ipod and/or Itunes; and that it's asking you not to disconnect so it can finish sorting out your stuff. There's really no big deal in disconnecting the Ipod while the screen says that. However disconnecting during this time will stop the saving of whatever ,aterial you just downloaded into your Ipos.

if you go into itunes, there is a little button that has like an arrow on it. click that and it will eject your ipod. the ipod should have a screen like it normally would, like when your listening to it. If your computer freezes and for some reason your ipod is stuck on that screen, it is OK to just eject it yourself. Don't do this a TON cus it can mess up your computer, but it wont hurt it if you only do it every so often.

Sometimes the software gets a hang up and it just keep saying that.
Go to my computer in the windows explorer. Right click on your ipod icon in the folders list and select eject.

That just means that it's still connected to iTunes, either it's trying to sync still, or you have it set to manually manage music.
All you have to do is hit the "eject" button next to your iPod's name in iTunes.
