when my dell computer, i bought in '04 with 256MB and just recently added 512MB, goes in to sleep mode my optical dell mouse that came with the computer stops glowing. i finding i have to restart my computer at least 3 times a day, i have tried placing it in different USB port spots and results are the same. i went to dell.com for answers and their sight is to complicated to find help for my problem.

check it with a new mouse .

Find another optical mouse and see if it can operate properly on your computer, if it can, the problem lies in your mouse, maybe be it's incompatible with other hardware.
If the other mouse fails too, try reinstalling your operating system and the drivers, upgrade the necessary drivers too.

Some optical mce do that to save power & are often problematic with standby mode.
Call Dell for advice on it .

2. power options
3. change the sleep mode to .. never...
