The term was coined in the late 1950s, when the TV show with "Rocky Squirrel and Bullwinkle Moose" cartoons started. One of the other cartoons on it was called "Fractured Fairy Tales". If you can get a copy of the shows, you might see one for yourself.

Watch Rocky and Bullwinkle for many examples...an ironic or humorous twist on a traditional tale...
