It is always a good idea to separate fry from any adults for at least the first six weeks of there lives. (unless the parent fish naturally care for them)
If possible transfer them to their own (Cycled) tank with very gentle filtration, but at the very least get them into a net breeder or get a tank divider to allow them a safe area in the tank.
Good Luck.

Convits are some of the best fish parents. They will pick a spot in the tank and lay their eggs. One parent will guard while the other eats. Usually if they feel that the eggs or fry are not safe they will eat them. This happens a lot with first time parents especially if there are other fish in the tank. It may take three or four times but DONT worry they will get it right. Remember that convicts lay 100's of eggs and lots and lots and lots of those eggs will survive. Also keep in mind that most pet stores will not take convicts in as trade as most cichlids are very aggressive and that makes them hard to sell. So after you have givin babies to all your all your friends and no longer have anyone else to force them on your going to be wondering why it was you were ever worried about this. good luck
ps. they will keep breeding and so will the babies after only a few months of age!!!!!!!!!

convicts are hardy and are always ready to have babies, throw them into a tank add water and BAM babies are on the way. convicts normally will tolerate their babies following them over the course of a month, but after that the convicts will start to attack the babies and maybe eat them. if you would like convict babies you should remove the parents or at least purchase a shrimp net or net breeder or the plastic breeders and place the pregnant mommy in them and let her drop her fry and then move the fry to a different tank or leave them in the net/plastic breeder until you can have a cycled tank for them to live in. the breeder is NOT a permanent home. OR put in alot of plants, hidey holes, clay pots, ornaments or make places for the babies to hide or for the convicts to have babies.
ps. chilchids tend to be good "parents" always making sure all the babies are accounted for and hidden away. chilchids are known to bury their babies as well, so maybe the babies are buried or hidden somewhere. i'm sure you'll find them. its not uncommon for fish NOT to eat their young so that could be it too.
here is a great site on chilchids and the convicts.

I don't know specifically about convicts, but it's not unusual for fish to east their babies. My husband had an aquarium and raised fish from time to time. Sometimes he put in a 'breeder' tank that had a slotted bottom that the small ones would swim down through, but the adults couldn't pass through. Sometimes he simply used a variety of plastic plants that gave a lot of hiding places to the little ones. He's not here to ask now, but I think it depended on what type of fish they were. If you can't find the answer on line, I would recommend calling your local pet store. Many of them have employees quite knowledgeable about fish.

Get another tank (make sure it is cycled and ready for fish) and put the adults in there and simply get the babies and keep putting them in the older tank. When you dont want anymore babies throw the babies away or seperate the adults.

jointly as the youngsters are youthful they are in a position to be secure yet as they improve (and sweetness away) they're going to fall prey to the different fish on your tank. you could the two divide the tank (dividers are available at puppy shops) are pass them to a seperate tank.
