This does not include helping animals know when to migrate. This question was asked in my Physics class and it has to do with the magnetic north pole I think...

Well the first benefit would be that without it you and I and and even animals trying to migrate would not be alive. The magnetic field forms a umbrella that shield earth from mass amounts of deadly solar radiation.

Some theorist suspect that the magnetic north pole is steadily moving South and will one day exchange places completely with the South pole. This happens every 1/4 million years or so. Should be interesting to see what the effects will be on life with out our suncreen.

You might want to research the Van Allen belt. This radiation from the sun is maintained in outer space by the magnetic field. If it were lower, it would make the earth uninhabitable because it is very radioactive.

the magnetic field deflects solar radiation (from the sun), which would kill all of us really fast if it wasn't deflected.
