5MB is not time, it's data. That's how much data you would be able to download per month. It doesn't just count for things you download to the phone, but also web pages that load.

It obviously is not based on minutes but rather data. It would be impossible to estimate how many minutes that would work out as. It all depends on what you are looking at, so pages that have a lot of graphics or pictures on them are obviously going to take up more data than just text.
So it doesn't matter if you load the page and then walk away from your mobile, its only going to cost you how much it took to load that page in the first place.
Usually service providers provide some sort of online bill you can access so you can monitor your data usage. Contact Cingular for that.
Hope this helps.

Think of your phone as a car and think of megabytes as MILES.
Your 5mb plan gives you 5 million miles.
When you start to use the internet on your phone, you have just started your car. When you begin using the internet, the megabytes (miles) begin to rack up.
If you drive your cellphone to YOUTUBE.com and open up the main page, you use 328,000 miles. You have 4,672,000 miles left on your phone before the gas runs out.
With your 5mb limit, you can open YOUTUBE about 15 times before you run out of gas.
If you view a movie on YOUTube, your car has to use the miles it takes to download that movie.
If you use your phone to surf the web, you will use 5mb very fast. If you only use your internet to instant message, you should be just fine on a month to month basis.
You should be able to set up your account online and monitor your usage. When you get too close to 5mb, its time to stop surfing.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

MB means megabytes which is a unit of storage and if your phone is broadband capable you could technically download a 5MB mp3 file in a matter of minutes.

5 MB refers to data not minutes. It doesn't matter how many minutes you have, when you use the internet on your phone you are use data in KB (kilobytes).
If you r not planning to use internet very much, it would be a better idea not to get the 5 MB plan. You could still access the internet at a rate of 1cent per kb.

It all depends what you use it on. Different web pages have different amount of images/information on it.
