Of course the answer is no when the man or the woman says I do it simply means they are choosing to be commited to that person for life. There is never any ownership in marriage it is a bond between two people that have chosen to be with that one person for there life you are not buying someone. You are signing papers yes but that is a significant more governmental aspect of your marriage.
That would be like you asking when the wife says yes does she become your slave. Come one this is common sense not rocket science.

I think it depends on the man. Mine is the most uncontrollable peice of work, if he does feel guilty he still so stubbern and fights not to be controlled that he still wont do it.

And then I have had Boyfriends in the past that have been fully under my finger and we werent even married.

If you have a woman that throws fits when you dont do exacally like she wants (ok I throw fits when I dont get what I want, but I mean like on an extreme level) then chances are if you dont want to be "controlled" (i think controlled is a better word then owned) then find a woman who is accepting of your faults, and cares about what you like to do as well.

But keep in mind its all womens nature to *****, and whether your married or not, once you get to a serious relationship level, you ALWAYS have to call to say if your late or if your going out somewhere. If you want to call that owned then I guess yes, but I think most women... atleast the good ones, make you do that because they worry their butts off, not so much as controlling.

a marriage shouldn't be an ownership it should be a partnership and as long as both know that then it should be OK but I do know of some married couples who do act like they Owen their partner but their the ones who normally have problems. The only thing I Owen on my husband is oh never mind I can't say that on here(LOL) . Good luck and hope this helped you

Historically speaking, a marriage certificate was a legal document of ownership, much like a slave certificate. The male "owned" his wife as a parcel of property. However, I don't think this would hold up in Judge Judy's court today. The times have changed, and when a man says I do - he is agreeing to respect and honor his wife, treat her with dignity, much as he deserves to be treated as well. "I do" means...I do promise to love you, I do promise to protect you, and I do promise to make you feel like the most special important aspect of my life, till death us do part.

No one is ever "owned" and just the use of the word or the mentality of thinking that way(that men/women are owned) is one big cause of relatioship trouble from day one.
