ok so i need help finding out what percent higher the mean score for males is then females in the 1999 verbal SAT scores.

the male mean is 509 and the female is 502

please show all work and explain how you got the answer

This is a percent difference problem, often used in science to compare the difference between the lab results and theoretical results.

% difference = (|M-F| / M)*100%
=(|509-502| / 509)*100%
=1.375%

Note: |M-F| is the absolute value.

509/502 = 1.013944...

%higher is 1.013944%
