Singles might be looked down upon, because the value of the society we live in puts on marriage. People see others getting married and they feel that it is what they are supposed to do. Remember everything is opinion and no one can realy prove if we should be married or single.
People might tell you why you should be married, it is still just an opinion, they might say no it's true, well it is true to them, but is merely a personal truth, Truth is nearly imposible to prove.

Well that question you asked isn't actually true. If you go into an interview for a job most places have a spot where it asks if you're married or have kids or something. first off you dont need to answer those questions in an interview it's against the law for them to ask that as the process of hiring you.
Anyhow, most places, i know at least for women, if you say you're married or have kids they will be less likely to hire you because they know you will leave work early or not come to work at all if your child is sick and that you'll want vacation leave to go with ur husband and child. they look at family as an excuse for u to leave early at most places.
but i don't know how you think single people are looked down on in society. maybe you can clarify that. that way you'll get a better answer

I can't really say I completely agree. There are people, married and those with a boyfriend/girlfriend, living lives as if they have no one to answer to. Where do you think the show "Cheaters" got their idea? It's almost like they desire the "freedom" of singlehood and the perks of a committed relationship at the same time...

Single people are looked down upon because people feel that do not have anyone else to support them.
