I have been reading about the University of Phoenix and how a degree from there is worthless and no employer will even look at your resume. I have been attending this University myself for some time and I have to say that so far I have learned a great deal. Just in the 6 months I have been there, what I have learned would help me a great deal with certain jobs. How can someone say that No degree is better then a degree ?? You do learn '! How is education a bad thing?
I know many people with no degree's get into good jobs and make good money, so how is it that with a degree from UOP that you will not even be considered for any job in America ?? Without a degree I have never been turned down for any job I have interviewed for, so with a degree and education and knowledge, someone is going to tell me that I have no chance to even be considered for any job! I have to find this total B.S. and very ridiculous. People that have degree's from UOP please give me your input on your job hunts?

I graduated in 2000 with a BSBM from University of Phoenix.
I had gone to a community college for my first year, then did the rest with UOP.
What I learned at UOP was definitely more relevant and I continue to fall back on things I learned there in the work place.
Another plus is the speed in which I was able to finish my degree while working full time. It would have taken 4-5 years longer with other programs.
They were the answer for me, and allowed me to get the promotion I wanted at the Fortune 500 company I was with (which required the sheepskin, didn't matter HOW WELL you did your job.).
When we moved out of state, I left that company, but I have worked 2 other places and never has the validity of my degree been questioned. In fact, the interviewer at my present job is actually an MBA student at UOP.
I was pleased with the quality of their instructors, and also how helpful their counselors were at helping me plot the quickest path through school. The instructors not just professors, they all work for pricate companies or are in the military, so they can teach the subject, but also help you to apply it with real world practical experience. For the most part, I had really good teachers (I had a couple lame ones, but you'd have that anywhere). At the end of the class, students get the chance to anonymously rate their instructors and provide feedback, so that teachers can improve (or if they are really bad, get weeded out). I liked that the students had input, and the school didn't tenure and keep lousy teachers. Seems fairer to me.
I also know several former co-workers who were MBA students at UOP at the same time I got my bachelor's. Of the 3 I knew, 2 had undergrad degrees from West Point, the other had graduated from the US Naval Academy. That also added credibility for me, because If it is a good enough school for them to get their MBA's, I figured it must be a pretty good program.
I wish you the best. I still email a couple of my study partners, and love how "in tune" and on the cutting edge you feel when you are in school. good luck to you and enjoy the journey!

I see what you are saying. But I do know that some schools are not accredited and they have no legitamacy in the real world as far as education is concerned. I don't know about UOP though, I just see them doing a lot of advertisements on side banners and things like that. Most reputable schools don't do that at least I haven't seen it. Some schools are not reputable. So why take your chances when you are going to be going to school for some time anyway? Seems you may as well go somewhere tried and true. I know a woman who got a bachelors from a school here called Remington. When she got out of school the only job she could get was as a secretary. Why did she go to Remington, I do not know. She could have gone to the University of Memphis or some of the smaller colleges that are tried and true, like Chrichton, or Christian Brothers etc. If she wanted a smaller class size. Bottom line education is expensive and takes dedication and hardwork why waste time and money going to a school whose degree may or may not add up?

Okay...I am guessing that is because awhile ago alot of people in (I believe it was the governement of police force) received degrees from a school that basically just gave out degrees. You paid money and received a degree (no classes). I think this has soured employers on online degrees. I guess that employers may also think that the course load may not be as heavy or challenging.
But, I dont think it matters. When you walk into the employers office you have to sell yourself. Not the school.
I was recently told that I should transfer to Columbia becasue the name alone opens doors. I realize that this maybe accurate but once again, its my skills and ability to sell myself to the employer that counts.
Anyways, I agree with you.

I currently work for the University of Phoenix Online, and all the stuff that you read out there about how we are worthless and not to waste your time, is B.S you are right about that. We are regionally accredited (which i am sure you know) so we have the same accreditation as any of your state universities. As you also probably know, you have to work for your degree, it is not like you just pay us a bunch of money and we say here ya go here is your piece of paper that says you are smart! you have to go to class, you have assignments and finals that you have to do! So don't listen to those incompetent people that have no clue about anything and just keep on doing what you are doing! Good luck on getting your degree!
