One gallon is not that big but I've heard that beta fish prefer small spaces? Is this true and are there any others types like this. I want to put at least two in the gallon bowl so they won't be lonely. Is this ok?

NO! DO NOT BUY A BETTA AND PUT IT IN THE ONE OR TWO GALLON 'bowl!'
BETTAS PREFER nice amounts of SPACE- LIKE MOST LIVING BEINGS! BETTAS HAVE ADAPTED TO LIVE IN SMALL SPACES- YES, BUT FOR SURVIVAL SITUATIONS..
and keeping them in small spaces for long periods of time absolutely is abuse! JUST DONT DO IT! if you reeeeally wanted a fish for a one gallon.. i would go with a guppy- but even a guppy doesnt deserve one gallon, and guppies most certainly dont deserve to be alone. your best bet at being a kind, fair, and 'good' person is to upgrade to at least 5 gallons.. thats still kind of small, but acceptable for guppies.. maybe even bettas.
pleeeeeeeeeeease, please dont abuse a betta! or guppy! or a goldfish! ( dont EVER put a goldfish in ANYTHING smaller than 10 gallons! )OR ANY living being! please?

NONE! A betta can survive in a small bowl, but does it want to?
Simply because they can exist in a bowl with no filter or ecosystem, doesn't mean it should. Betta fish are actually quite active which means they prefer larger spaces. Also, the bowl idea for betta's is a bad idea as the can jump out of the water frequently, and breathe air directly through a labyrinth. A covered tank is still best for your betta.
A good rule of thumb for Tropical fish is 1 gal/inch of fish. For Fresh water (especially Goldfish) it is best to go with 10 gal/Fish.

A Betta. That's it. Just a Betta. Just one Betta. One gallon is entirely too small for more than one fish and Bettas are one of the few fish equiped with the labrynth organ that makes them breathe oxygen as well as dissolved oxygen. The other species aren't small enough to fit in a bowl. Just one Betta in a one gallon bowl and even at that... It's a little cramped. Oh and Goldfish... Goldfish bowl is an old, oxymoron term that in reality, doesn't apply in any way, shape or form. Goldfish need filtration due to how much waste they produce and they rely completely on dissolved oxygen which is what filters and oxygen stones supply. They need to be in at least 10 gallons, if not more, depending on the species. A Goldfish won't even last a month in a bowl.

i feel bad for bettas that have to be in a small container. my betta is in a 1.67 custom gallon tank and he loves it. they are raised in isolation so they are best and known to live alone, male bettas WILL fight and a male and female pair WILL fight. they are very territorial. the general rule of thumb for keeping fish is one inch of fish per gallon of water. you can keep two guppies or platies or mollies AS LONG AS YOU CHANGE the water every TWO DAYS. If you dont uphold to this schedule then just stick with the betta.

ps guppies and platies and mollies are livebearers and have fry every month, it might not be such a great idea if you only have one tank. danios and some tiger barbs are good. they only get like an inch big. just keep doing water changes. just 20% not 50% or completely, that would cause stress and ultimately death to your fishes. GOOD LUCK

Beta Fish are also commonly know as Fighting Fish , you need to make sure that they are not two males , or they will kill each other.
It would be better if you had a two gallon tank , but i suppose one gallon will be fine.

Oh , and Sirena is wrong , people sometimes have 12 Betta fish in a six gallon tank. Even in fish stores they sell them in little cups.

This link should help you out , and good luck with the fish.

a one gallon bowl is entirely too small for more than one fish, and is kinda of cramped for one fish. a bettas eill do OKAY in abowl, but not great. you'll need to keep it tinth e wamrest part of your house, they are tropical fish that do best at temps of 78° to 80°F (do not put in direct sunlight though!). you'll need to do a full water change every 3 days.

fish produce waste... it's like living in a toilet. keeping one fish in there and cleaning it out 3 times a week is pretty much the limit, more than that and you'll poison them. you really should get a tank with a filter and heater.

A betta -- they are good by themselves, and can live in a one gallon. It's better to give them more, but most other fish are either too big, or fare better in groups, for your tank. If you want bigger or more fish, you can get a tank for $20-30 including filter.

well you cant put two betas in one bowl they will kill each other but you can get a gold fish or any other small fish and i know they have a lot of small ones out their it just depends on if the tank has a filter and all of the other stuff or if its just a regular bowl whit ou all of the extras.

The only thing you can put in a 1 gallon fish tank is a betta, you cant put any real goldfish in there because they grow fast and will soon outgrow your tank.

You can't put more than 1 betta in a tank at all, they will simply kill each other.

As for the bowl, you will need to change the water every 5 days to keep your betta alive. More if needed.
