throughout the course of my studies. I have a solid business idea in mind but I am concerned about sharing my idea as part of the admissions process. Is there anything I can do to protect my idea so that no one can legally take it and make it their own idea?

Well considering that you are only sharing with the admissions committee, you should be okay. I am sure they have strict rules against faculty using the ideas as their own. On the plus sied if someone does use your idea you will have a really big lawsuit against them and possibly the school. It woulld be intellectual theft.

I would be more concerned about the students in the class stealing your ideas.

But if you are truly concrened right down the idea as you would on the application and amil it to yourself. You may want to make a copy of the application and mail that to yourself. That should offer you a measure of protection

Good Luck in Graduate school.

Contact someone in the school who's in charge of collecting all applicant's info. Tell them what's what.
OR
Type up a brilliant business plan as required then set aside. Then type up your reason for NOT including it as a proposal. Support your own actions of reluctance to submit. Tell them you'll furnish the actual one in person, or upon being interviewed...

You might risk being accepted though.

HI!
You have couple legal ways, but they take time and money to patent your ideas.

What You can do,it's:
Write that idea of yours on paper or print out whatever easyer for you.
than pack in envelope and send by sertified or insured mal to yourself from Post Office.
In that case it's counts as patented.
Don't open envelope!!!! Just keep it until you will need.
Good Luck
