I have a Compaq Presario, a little over two years old, with a Best Data cable modem. The startup takes forever (I have Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper), and the Internet has over the past couple of months suddenly, noticeably gotten slower. Sometimes it's iffy whether pages will load at all.

See if this helps... Open your browser. Select "Tools" at the top menu. Scroll down to internet options, a window will open. From there delete cookies. When that is finished delete all temp files (these are all the files that have been save on your computer while you browse the web) If you haven't done this since you purchased the computer it might take a while to complete. Once its done see if that makes a difference. If it's still slow try to defrag your hard drive. Start Menu/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/ Disk Defrag (it will be on the left side) This may take a while depending on the size of your hard drive. It cleans up the clutter on your hard drive making it faster to access info and run programs.

Since you are a LEVEL 3 member, you are obviously very computer literate so I must ask you, ARE YOU doing all the necessary housekeeping, removing uncessary STARTUPS which have a habit of creeping in to your computer and slowing things up terribly.

Do you regularly clean your REGISTRY which has a habit of accumulating all sorts of logs and dll's and uncessary stuff that slows your PC down.

Do you use cleanup, remove temps, and history and do you defrag every week?

If the answer to any of these questions is NO. then you can see what is slowing your PC down.

I hope you have EASY CLEANER. It is FREE and foolproof. You can touch the REGISTY for example, press FIND, wait a few minutes and liely see 75 or more errors. So JUST press SELECT ALL and DELETE ALL.

Do the same for "Uncessary files". and LOOK carefull ay the Startup list.

Do you really need ADOBE or MESSENGER or ITUNES at Starup? NO you do not. Just delete these from the startup list on Easy Cleaner.

I'm sure your PC will rejuvenate to its old speedy state!

You might have a lot of adware/spyware on your machine, in which case you need to get rid of it. An excellent program is Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. Also, clear your cache of all unwanted temporary internet files, history, etc. Have you done a defragmentation lately?..that helps too. If you have Norton Systemworks on your computer, you can do a disk optimizer which works wonders. If there are Registry errors, that can slow you down too.
Also, do a complete virus scan.

1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://spywarekiller.hyperboards.com/index.php?action=view_topic&topic_id=4 do that now .Update it (Latest updates 28-3-2007) and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode

Read Windows XP Super Tweaks and stop un-necessary xp servics.

Run spyware/virus programs. If they pick nothing up, try checking the free space on your hard drive. Also, make sure you are not running too many programs at the same time as your browser. If you are using a old browser, make sure you update it. IE 7 and Firefox 2 are good to use.

Run anti-virus.
Go to INTERNET OPTIONS and:
DELETE temporary files
and DELETE COOKIES.
Have you installed any NEW programs lately? A new version of Windows? New hardware? Any changes of any kind?
And there are very few problems with a computer that did not show SOME improvement by adding more RAM.
