If you are in Australia you are sold mondo grass with a cultivation instruction of grow in full sun. Most people do this and the leaves all burn in the summer sun.
Mondo grass can be mown but I wouldn't mow it two low 2" would be as low as I would go or you could 'whipper snipper" it. Some places I have heard cut it down twice a year, but I find I never have to trim mine, and it always looks fantastic, the secret is to grow it in the shade. If you have the giant mondo grass (it is really a Liriope) not a true mondo grass (ophiopogon japonicus). Liriope looks like mondo grass but will take more sun than mondo grass. It to can be sheared of to produce new leaves. If it looks terrible cut it down, water well and fertilize it if it is spring where you are. If you think it is getting sunburn dig it up (and you can divide into more plants if you want) and replant in a less sunny position. If it has frost damage or has become dry and this has caused the damage you may as well give it a shear as its not going to repair the damaged leaves, and the new ones will come through quicker. I have never heard of mondo grass becomming rampant. Hope this helps, they are really very tough when established.

Hi there,
My Mondo grass was looking very untidy. Parts of it was brown and dried up and dead looking and most of the ends going brown.
After having a really close look with my reading glasses on, I could see the bug called Scale living right inside the Mondo Grass. As you would already know, those awful bugs suck the life out of the plant eventually killing the Mondo Grass.
There is a chance the same thing is happening to your Mondo Grass. How I got rid of the Scale was to spray very second day for 2 weeks with White Oil and then alternate it with watered down Sunlight Lemon dishwashing liquid.
In answer to your question, your Mondo Glass will be fine if you cut it back. I had to do it to mine because of the Scale damage and it grew back as good as new. Just make sure you check it very closely for Scale. If there is Scale and you cut it back, the Scale will attack all of the new growth.

It is reported that mowing mondo grass once or twice
during the first few growing seasons stimulates growth,
but this also temporarily reduces the size of the individual
clumps, and the cut ends of the leaves may look unattractive until new leaves grow in.
Mondo Grass can become aggressive if not trimmed once established. If you choose to try this, make sure that the mower is set at four inches high, because mondo grass is easily damaged by scalping. It will ensure that the new shoots are not damaged. Use a stiff hand rake periodically to remove dead leaves.

I have the same problem. There's a few solutions. 1) Wet your hair first, and when you put it in your ponytail, get a little bit of mousse (not too much cuz then you'll make your hair crunchy) and spread it onto your hair where it usually poofs out. This is my solution since I shower in the morning anyway. I use Suave mousse, it's pretty cheap too. 2) Use some kind of frizz serum, oil type stuff. There's a lot of it if you look. It's usually called stuff like "Frizz Away" or "Frizz Ease" or something. 3) Use clips, barrettes, or bobby pins to hold the pieces back. 4) Wear a hat or headband.

hairpins! get them the same color as your hair. also if they are too small to pin get some leave-in conditioner, after you pony-tail just put a bit on your fingers and smooth it down (you can get unscented, although it will still smell like something it wouldn't be as strong as the perfumed hair products)
