Sign up for DSL or Cable. For DSL I would recommend the intermediate or advanced service, not the basic. I have basic Yahoo/DSL service and there is barely a difference in web page loading times except for downloading music.
Cable is faster. (more expensive than DSL)
If your area offers Verizon fiber-optic broadband and money is not an issue, then sign up for that.
Avoid satellite.

If you're using dial-up, then upgrade to DSL, fiber optics, etc. If not, try deleting unused and unnecessary files on your hard drive. Or, download a spyware program, AOL provides a free one, and run that. Block/delete spyware, and make sure you don't have any viruses. If your internet is still slow, then you may have a really old computer that may not have all the specs. for high-speed internet usage.

What kind of connection do you have?

If you have dial-up, then get a broadband connection (DSL, Cable, Satallite, wireless.)

If you already have broadband, contact your provided to see if an upgraded speed is available.
