I think she may actually believed in book club at the start. But i don't think she actually reads the books anymore and people just pay her to have the book advertise at the book club. How much money does the book make because stupid people just follow what she says?(sorry English not my first language)

LOL i think you may be right. i doubt oprah gives a damn about the books in her club. let alone does she read all of them. im sure she reads some of them, but mostly she gets a breifing on what the books are about so she can talk about them.

my roommate bought a book 'cause of oprah -- it sparked a lot of conteraversy later on, but it was that book by james frey. its supposed to be non-fiction, but it ended up being partially untrue. awesome book though... lol

anyway, good point. :)

I agree completely i doubt she actually reads them and the books get that big OPRAH BOOK CLUB sticker and tons of people read the books she says to. so ya its basically just advertisement

It's not 'just advertisement.' It's something she's interested in. If it is just advertisement Oprah show will just air book commercials during breaks and not dedicate hour show to a book. Authors themselves don't pay Oprah to put their books on show. Oprah hand picks them.
