I really like it, though it took a second reading to start to enjoy it. The first time I read it we had to deconstruct it, which is a very painful, brutal experience ("The horror! The horror!").

Once I was able to read it on my own time, for my own enjoyment, I found that I... well, actually enjoyed it.

I don't think I'll ever be able to read or hear the word 'rivets' without thinking of this book.

I appreciate the book and the metaphors and symbolism, but I did not enjoy reading it. I have to admit that Conrad really did capture the darkness, when I read the book I felt like all the light around me disappeared and I had to strain to read the words through the darkness. Honestly, one of the only things I remember from the story are the rivets, and that there was a passage about rivets, I have no clue why I remember that.

I loved it. I had to read it twice. One of the best books I have ever had to read in high school and college. Loved it to bits.

It is the classic tale of a journey into the darkness of humanity and also the darkness in yourself. This may be why some ppl don't like it. They cannot see beyond the main characters story. I loved witnessing his lose of innocence. It is very much alike the journey that Victor Frankenstein goes through in Frankenstein...which I loved as well.

I feel sorry for you. Just whatever you do, do not I repeat DO NOT watch the movie. Mr. John Malcovich wrings the neck of a monkey. It is unnecessary and gruesome. I only had to read it once in college. I'm thankful I didn't have to read it in high school too.

No, it was the most awful piece of literature I've ever been forced to read!!!

Not only is the level of vocabulary unecessarily complex, but the story itself was just boring and seemed to drag on and on.

I've had more fun watching poorly produced educational films.

The Heart of Darkness definitely had its highs, but it also definitely had its lows. Then again, I'm not usually a fan of ship novels.

No, it was the most god-awful, slow going, boring thing I have ever read.

And this is coming from someone who will read pretty much anything.

Yeah... not really. It's obviously good writing, but such a beeotch to get through, even though it's so short.

I admire you for reading it twice... and now for the third time!

It's the only book I've ever read that I actually hated.
