Under what circumstances do you think giving up and quitting is a good idea?
I'm not talking about smoking or other bad habits. I'm talking about giving up at something you set out to do. When is this ever a good thing? I don't know...I'm asking!

Some goals are met with few obstacles. Others seem to be nothing but a series of obstacles forever hiding the benefit at the end. This is when you must evaluate whether the benefit is achieving the goal, or if the benefit lies in the process of getting there. When you figure out where the benefit lies, you will have the answer to your question.

You are the only one that can really answer this questin. Not because there isn't enough information (which there really isn't) but because you will know when you have had your belly full! You should keep striving to do whatever it is until you run out of a burning desire to do it; until you realize it doesn't work; when you have spent more money than you would get back; when you secretly cry when you are alone. Good luck and if you give up you will know that it is the best thing for you! If you quit, don't look back. Always remember that you made the best decision you could at the time and with the skills and knowledge you had.

First you have to ask why you started out doing what you are doing, is it for pride, money, love, or charity. I think the idea of never give up can be considered an unhealthy idea in some circumstances. such as... if achieveing a goal starts to affect your life or people in your life in a negative way, it should raise a flag of caution in your mind. With trying to accomplish any goal, there will always be some sort of controversy that will slow you down or even divert you from your goal but that doesn't always mean quit or give up. Some times it means re think your game plan and strategy. But sometimes if enough flags of caution have been raised in your mind it is time to stop and asses the situation and weigh the pros and cons. if the cons out weigh the pros and you still continue to persue your goal, then it is time to come to the realization that it is no longer a goal, but more of an obsession. Also remember that there is just as much pride in recognizing defeat, as there is in being victorious.

I think quitting, or giving up on a bad relationship can be a good thing. Like if you are in an abusive (physical or emotional) relationship, it is always good to quit trying to make it work. I know I have tried to make a relationship work with a cheater. It was a HUGE relief when I finally quit trying to make it work, and realized it was going no where.

Only give-up on something that is detrimental to you.

An example:
You joined the track team, you suck, and the practices are killing you....

Unless it is literally killing you, finish the season. You started it, and you should make a habit of finishing what you started.
You'll get better, get over it.

Another example:
You joined the track team, but you grades are slipping and you can't keep up with other obligations.

This activity is detrimental to you, so if nessasary you can give it up.

I think quitting is a good idea only when you feel like you don't even have an ounce of hope left to do it anymore. Only then will you feel right about quitting; otherwise, you might wonder "what if" questions.

when there is no purpose to continue. If it is fruitless to continue then it is time to stop. The wisest people know that quiting isn't giving up it's revamping your priorities and setting a new goal and trying to achieve it. A fool continues when there is no point.

If for example , that you play a sport like football you might get old and not play as good as your young self. If this happens , it just goes to show that it's time to quit and retire.

You must quit only when you no longer WANT the success that awaits you on the other side of your work...

If at first you don't succeed, give it up, no sense being a damned fool about it!
