I am all about strong, buff women who can hold her own and kick a** if necessary, but I hate the new trend in movies.

Lately, there have been a lot of movies where the tough chick gets into a physical fight with a man. Even if she "wins" the fight, he still gets a few good punches in.

What happened to teaching boys that it's never okay to hit a girl?

Movies like these make it look like girls can hold their own if a fight with a guy. That women should be able to defend themselves like most guys can.

Even if the girl is superhero strong (which is almost never the case in real life) and can actually win a fight with a man, I don't think that movies should depict men punching and kicking women.

Any thoughts?

Excellent point. All of the violence in the media bothers me in general. But the recent trend of women probably got something to do with feminism/political correctness (the women can do it too, just as well).

I agree that this really degrades our sensibilities and manners, such as not hitting women. The feminists probably consider that to be discrimination against women because it implies that they're inferior or something like that...

I'm not one of those anti-feminist guys, but it just seems to be one of the big forces behind this. Women aren't allowed to fight on the front line in war and won't be drafted for a reason. Women ARE different physically from men, no matter how much the media tries to white-wash it with fictional "super women" characters that seem just like men.

And it's definitely had negative consequences. I just saw on a news show today that violent crimes among women have increased by 800% in the past decade or so... And there have also been YouTube videos of teenage girls beating each other up. It's really sad, and I think these films have a negative impact on society.

Um.... two thoughts - 1. Does unrealistic film violence promote actual violence? Probably not. 2. Just in case, make sure you only hit guys that are really small. I have always had a hit or run policy (dependent on size of potential opponent).

Seriously though - I think you may have a point - erosion of traditional values has changed society for the worse in many respects.

I have never been attacked by a women, but am I really suppose to not defend myself?

As far as regular movies, I agree that women shouldn't be abused physically in any way. I am a firm believer that it is my job as a man to protect my girl at all costs and I certainly don't agree with hitting women at all ever...for any reason! I happen to like fantasy movies like Tomb Raider, UltraViolet, etc. where the women are actually in a sense warriors. In a movie like that I think it's different. The woman is the action figure and the hero. I think people can distinguish the difference in the two.

I was raised not to hit a woman but, if one was to attack me like these fights in the movies I sure ain't going to stand there like a fool and not defend myself. If it takes breaking a few of her bones to get her to stop ,so be it . Well there is a differance of being a good man and being a dumbass getting the crap beat out of you.

I agree with you. In fact, I hate the whole girl-fight thing that seems to be the new cool thing to do for girls. I think it's disgusting. That used to be something that separated the sexes, the fact that women were not usually violent. Whatever happened to females acting like ladies?

I freakin love you right now.
That's what I'm sayin. Not to insult or demean my gender, but men are stronger than us and its real f**ked up that guy would hurt someone he knows is physically weaker than him. That's why I always cheer for the women who refuse to put up with men's sh*t and just annihilate their asses

I see your point. What I've heard from women is that they DO get hit and it feels good to watch someone hit back.

You don't even need to address gender in this question.
I think there is too much violence in the entertainment industry. Period.
