He was an idiot. Now he is a good idiot. Idiot wasn't exactly the word that I was thinking of but it will have to do for now.

I don't know MLK's party affiliation. His appeal was not partisan in that way.
Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. The Republican Party was the anti-slavery party at the time, and the Democratic Party was pro-slavery. After the Civil War, Southern blacks favored the Republican Party, but the KKK practiced acts of terrorism to prevent blacks from voting Republican, or from voting at all. Finally Southern blacks had the vote taken from them, and the South became solidly Democrat.
The South never really warmed to the Republican Party until very recently, well after the Civil Rights Movement. In Martin Luther King's time, the Democratic legislators, due to Democrat domination of the South, tended to be against the Civil Rights Act. Not all Democrats, of course. But the Civil Rights Act was passed only because Republican legislators favored it.
Interesting, huh?

yes it is true. The republican party ended slavery, gave blacks the right to vote. the republicans championed the civil rights act. republicans sent federal troops to desegregate schools. republicans started the naacp
democrats passed jim crow laws. JFK (democrat) voted against the civil rights act. he also had MLK Jr wiretapped. democrat, Robert Byrd from WV (former member of the KKK called MLK Jr a "coward". democrat Woodrow Wilson kicked all blacks out of federal jobs
Democrats, in pursuit of their socialist agenda, are fighting to keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. They've been in charge of the inner cities for 40 years and nothing has changed.
it is easy for me to see why MLK Jr was a republican.
