he automaker sold only 871 Crossfires in the first two months of this year.

Karmann's deal calls for building more than 30,000 Crossfires a year until 2008, the paper said. The company assembled 34,000 of the two-seaters at its Osnabrück, Germany, factory in 2004. But dealer inventories have risen since that point, and output dropped to 12,500 cars in 2005.

At the same time, the company is adding a second shift at its Belvidere, Illinois, plant next week to build the Dodge Caliber and the Jeep Compass compact SUV. Production of the Compass begins in May, the company said in a statement.

What this means to you: The truth is, the Crossfire was grossly overpriced out of the box, and nobody on either side of the Atlantic has ever seen it as a real sports car.

Production of the Chrysler Crossfire roadster and coupe could be on the verge of being halted, according to a report by AutoExpress. However, a Chrysler spokesperson wasn't so pessimistic. The representitive said Chrysler will certainly reduce output, but "this doesn't mean we are looking to end production outright." Recently, Reuters reported that Chrysler would pay the company that makes the Crossfire to reduce the contracted output volume. The Crossfire sits on the lot for an average of 302 days. Poor sales have been blamed largely on the price of the Crossfire, which many feel is far to high.

I thought they had already killed it. I owned one for almost three years, I enjoyed it very much when I drove it but ultimately I didn't drive it enough to justify the cost. I just bought a new 300c.... sweet!!

Yes it's another Chrysler dud. Or since Mercedes had a lot to do with it does it make it a Mercedes dud. either way it was an overpriced piece of junk.
