No, in many places, the rest of the world is way ahead of America on the issue of race. It is part and parcel of a lack of sensitivity that Americans have toward each others. Americas do not know much about other people, even those Americans that travel are often guided into hermetically protected areas within other Countries that keep the American visiting population separate from the normal people of the country.
If you have been to Cabo San Lucas it is easy to tell that you are in a zone that regular Mexicans can not enter without a pass for that area unless he or she is licensed to do so. In other words, vacationing Americans and others are protected.
The America people are unusually ethnocentric, or not knowledgeable, about people from different regions of the world and unaware of the values and traditions of these other people.
In fact, Americans seem to think that they are the greatest people in the world, and we can not understand it when other people do not share this opinion.

How difficult and disheartening it is to view such behavior. It would sometimes appear that the rest of the country is much the same. Actually, racists of all kinds and colors make such a loud and obnoxious noise that they SEEM to be everywhere. The reality is that MOST people are at least tolerate of others and some even embrace and value diversity. These people make up the majority, but because they do so in a quiet way, they are not noticed.
If it does not put you in physical danger, I suggest speaking up to the ugly thoughts of others whenever you can. The light often makes these people scurry for their dark caves.
I feel that as these white racists gain maturity (which could seem to be a very long time) they will possibly stop showing off for each other and gain some insight into proper behavior. Only time will tell.
The most important thing you can do is NOT to let it get you down, because then they have really won by making the world a less wonderful place for you.

There are racists everywhere you go; some places are just more overt than others. It sounds like your school is has very overt racism compared to others; the universities I've been to have had little or no racism on that level. The best thing you can do is set a good example. Don't laugh at racist jokes or engage in racist talk; when others do it around you, tell them they're being immature. Eventually, maybe they'll clean up their acts, at least when you're around.

Thank you for bringing to light that this still goes on. Many people believe that "racism only exists in the minds of blacks" (I have a direct quote from a moron who frequents this site).
Unfortunately, it is still a very big deal. This country has had problems with race for a VERY long time. Centuries, actually, and this problem will not go away so easily.
The problem lies in the hands of parents, who teach their children stereotypical things about other races. Your father, for example, telling you that blacks will react a certain way to this and that. I'd bet he's not the only person out their teaching their kids to "expect things" of a person based on their race. If we could weed out the stupid parents, I have no doubts that this country's race relations would improve.
Another suggestion would be to quit the PC thing. Forcing people to walk on eggshells around said group of people only makes them despise them more.
Very good question and I'm giving you a star.

Some people were raised in racist house holds, or were told that a specific race is not to be encountered. Like one of my friends who is White, she told me her mother doesn't approve of interacial dating and when her daughter was dating a Native American, she wasn't happy. My friend loves her mom but disapproves of how she feels about Interacial relationships. Doesn't make me think less of my friend because of her mother. Also many racist tend to want to make a statement and let people know that they are racist, but if people think that effects a whole race, then that's just wrong. There are racist Black people too, and other races. I don't think that those few people effect others who aren't racist.

there is racism everwhere and that is sad. In more diverse areas there is not alot of racism I go to a college that has alot of black and whites and I don't see much racism going around. I'm glad to hear to that you didn't take after your dad and formed your own opinion of people. People like you can change the world so don't be sad you just continue to not judge people and maybe move to a more diverse area where there isn't as much racism.

i think of the lyrics might replicate extra on the perspectives and values of the individuals she is conscious and co-workers with than the rest and maybe her very own values. i'm uncertain if 'I Kissed a woman' is meant to recommend it yet many human beings think of bis are promiscuous. and helpful, some human beings available are like that and a lot worse. yet that's real for some human beings no rely if or no longer they're at present day bi or gay. yet i comprehend that some straights (and gays) in simple terms choose for to assert and have faith that approximately bis via fact it makes them experience extra suitable approximately themselves. in my opinion, i like 'I Kissed a woman' and that i do no longer hardship approximately any photograph. If all and sundry is going to assert i'm a littleslut, they're going to with or with out listening to a music, so why hardship approximately it? My lady buddy is conscious i like her and that i'm no longer promiscuous in any respect and my friends comprehend it too.

Looks like you've had a bad dose of "Racial Relations" 101.
Sorry sweetie, but sometimes people in this life can be really cruel and really stupid. As for you wondering if the rest of the world is like this? There are places on this earth where people actually accept you based on your character. Far and few between, but they do exist. :)

It's a learning experience for you. Maybe you just live in a racist area?
If any one of my friends dared to say anything derogatory to someone of a different race or culture I'd put him in check immediately.
You can learn a lot from different people.
I'm sorry that you're surrounded by idiots.

Sadly in America yes. It's 2007 but some people raise their kids like it's 1950. And then those people grow up and raise their kids the same way. It's a never ending cycle.
