if you truely never have had sex then probably not. THe main reason is to look for changes that can be high risk for cervical cancer. Since cervical cancer has only been found in women with HPV virus which is sexually transmitted then you are very very low risk. THat being said, there are a number of other reasons to get an exam. The doc not only does a smear but also checks your internal and external anatomy for other issues as well as breast exams for cancer.

Absolutely! Sex has nothing to do with smears. This checks for cancer, not std's. Although those can be detected through various tests, pap smears are to detect cancer, usually cervical. I went for a smear when I was 33, it came back abnormal. My family practitioner sent me to an ob/gyn. They did another smear, it was abnormal. I was then scheduled for a colposcopy which showed I had carcinoma in situ, which technically is cancer about to start. Never ever miss your appointments. Go yearly, go faithfully, and demand they do the test for ovarian cancer. That is a very aggressive form of cancer and usually once you find out you have it, it's too late to cure it. Now they have these tests available, ask for them, use them. It can save your life.

You dont need too. I had a full std check before I first had sex (of any kind) at 25/6. For me, it was just nice to have a confirmed clean bill of health , even though I knew I was clean.
edit. it appears from reading below I was wrong this matter. I thought a pap smear as a virgin was simply a basal test as mentioned, rather like my virginal std test. apologies

Yes you should, as in order to most accurately test for bodily abnormalities, you need to have what they call "baseline" tests--meaning, an exam that is taken not because a problem is already suspected. Not all forms of cervical cancer are caused by HPV, which means you don't have to have sex in order to be at risk for cervical cancer. Do it for your health.

I got one when I was 15, but that's because my mom dragged me there.
Totally worth it in the end, virgins can get cervical cancer too!

it is good for all women to begin having a Pap and vaginal exam when they begin menstruating. it is imperative for sexually active females to have this done annually. make an appointment with a female gynecologist or go to Planned Parenthood.
