There could be a few things as was mentioned. Could be the start of swim bladder problem, feeding greens like peas, greenbeans, lettuce etc. works great.

Another problem could be a nitrate or ammonia poisoning as G stated. Have you tested your water? If your ammonia or nitrate readings are high you need to do a 20-25% water change.

Temperature. What is the temperature of your tank? Although many gold fish can survive in high temperatures, long term can literally fry their brains. Check to see your water temperature (should be below 68)

Any of these or a combo of these can be a problem.

Also, you don't see any red streaks or scale color change do you?

If you have gone thru these and are still having problems, feel free to im or email me and I'll try to help further.

Constipation could be one cause. it can come on rather quickly and cause the fish to act quite strangely. Try not feeding him for a day and then giving him some vegetable with plenty of fiber. Split peas without the shell is the most popular item. If that doesn't get the job done in a day, drop me a line with any new symptoms and I'll try to help more.
