Is this considered fair play? If not what can I do about it?

There really is nothing you can do about it whether it was fair or not. I know I had to cancel an auction once for some makeup I listed and my son got into and messed it all up. Sometimes things like that happen. Or maybe he didn't think he was gonna get enough money for it. Who knows? But no theres nothing you can do.

It is not right, and the seller could get in to trouble with Ebay if this is a habit for them. I have had to cancel a few auctions because the item broke when I was packaging it. Accidents happen, but not often.

Yeah I suppose it is fair; but the thing is you don't know why it is cancelled, it would probably be fair or at least harmless because after all, it is within their right and you aren't paying anything anyway.

It's not fair, but it is within their rights to do it. File a complaint with ebay. perhaps if he or she gets complained on enough, they'll do something about it.
