I am most likely going to UC Irvine, majoring in Public Health. However, that department just opened in 2003. Since it is such a new department, is that bad? I would like to know the overall feel of UC Irvine, and intersting things to do there. Also, which dorms are the best? Thank you for helping.

UCI is a commuter school. Not too much going on campus. You start to see it go kinda dead by about 4pm. If you wanna have fun, most kids travel off campus. South Coast Plaza mall, Irvine Spectrum, various clubs, beach bonfires, etc.

It's a fairly conservative school, altho it looks like the extreme left compared to the rest of Irvine and surrounding areas.

I like the Middle Earth dorms the best, even tho they tend to be a touch smaller.

The opening of a new department is always good as they want to make their name in the market, so they will have the best of everything where you have a chance to be the best.
