It depends if you are looking for clothing for men or women, and also it depends on your budget. I love Anthropologie, but it can be expensive. But also Gap, Banana Republic, and Urban Outfitters have some cute clothes.
One thing I usually do is that I buy fashion magazines and if there is something I like I read where it was purchased (if a particular store) and the brand/label and then I try to find similar fashions on the internet. Also, you'd be surprise about what you can find in regular department stores, you just have to try to not get distracted by other things. I also shop in stores like Nordstrom Rack (less expensive than Nordstrom), TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross. You have to invest a little bit more time to look in those places, but sometimes the finds are a great reward. I have bought so many designer purses (Kenneth Cole, Tumi, Dooney & Burke, etc) at incredibly low prices at these stores. I recently bought a very nice leather Kenneth Cole bag (big enough that it can fit a couple of books) for around $30.
Good luck!
