One theory is that there has been an eternal sequence of big bangs followed by big crunches. If this is correct, then yes, the latest big bang would not have been the first one. However, the preceding big crunch erased all evidence of what may have come before it, including previous big bangs.
Cosmic background radiation etc. only show evidence of one big bang. As far as we're concerned, it's effectively the only one there's been.

Yes. Its possible that "our" big bang was manufactured by some vast intelligence and that someday when our universe starts wearing out WE will be a vast intelligence able to initiate a new big bang and new universe we can move into.
The big crunch theory doesn't seem to be likely now that we know that the expansion of our universe is accelerating.

Look into M-theory. This theory includes multiple big bangs.

yeah, like magic ninja said, check into the M theory.
if you have netfilx, rent: Physics: The Elegant Universe and Beyond.
if i remember correctly, the first disc explains the M theory, or at least introduces it. very interesting.
the idea is that there are multiple universes, and sometimes they hit eachtoher---- and the impact, the BANG, spreads matter in every which way, creating a new universe.. or something. its something that certainly deserves a little research .
